Al-Sharif Ali: Iraqi resistance prolongs occupation
Iraq, Politics, 10/23/2003
The chairman of the Constitutional Royal Movement and chairman of the
"Iraq conference delegation," al-Sharif Ali Bin al-Hussein on Tuesday considered
that the Iraqi resistance perpetuate the American occupation who "uses
this resistance as a pretext to continue its stay in Iraq."
Al-Sharif said following his first meeting with the Secretary General
of the Arab League Amr Moussa in Cairo on Tuesday that the "only solution
for the Iraqi problem is not resistance, rather the political solution,"
and "we consider sending military forces from the neighboring states to
Iraq as unhelpful in reaching a solution."
He added "we do not accept occupation to continue for a longer time
for Iraq or for many years" considering that "the people of Iraq are ready
to run their own affairs and restore back sovereignty" and that "occupation
should not last more than months."
Al-Sharif Ali also called for the "reform of the Iraqi army once again,"
considering that "members of the Governing Council started to support this
trend to withstand cases of security disorder in Iraq."
A source in the Arab League considered that the meeting between al-Sharif
Ali and Moussa "falls in the course of the AL secretary general talks with
various political forces, being members in the Iraqi Governing Council
or others."
